You read it right. F-R-E-E!

Microsoft is offering the final release of Visual Studio 2005 (VB, C#, C++, Web Developer, J#) together with SQL Server 2005 Express Editions (MSDE replacement) free to download for 1-year which was initially priced at $49 (not including SQL Server 2005 Express Edition which is althroughout a free product).

I haven't tried the product(s) yet as I have just finished downloading VB and SQL Server, but definitely will try it and incorporate it to current and future projects. It is really a welcome development since the Standard Edition is currently priced at $299 (as of this time is about Php 16,000+).

So hurry, get it now while it last. Click here

"Waves hits a big rock as it approaches the shore, creating a big splash and destroying every waves that hits it. I also upgraded the MySQL (Win32) server to 4.1.14, I thought everything will work out okay but then some functions from the system that I made returned these errors. I was like what the heck, It was working before. While debugging, I installed back the old version (4.1.4-gamma) on the server where everything was doing fine until I solved this problem.

While I was brushing my teeth before going to work yesterday, something came up my mind on how will I fix my broken code to make it work on the newer version. Installed the 4.1.14 version of MySQL on my workstation and tested it. It's 5am when I received a call from my uncle, I was expecting them to arrived by 7 or 8am. I was so happy to see them again, especially my cousins Len and Lisa, who I haven't seen since 1998 I think. They're all grown up, am I really this old? Haha!

So my aunt told me to get the bags, then suddenly after I got the second bag, my brother appeared behind me and said "Kuya!". Hey what do you expect, it's 5am, I just woke up, and then this... I looked at him first, making sure I'm not dreaming haha. You should see the look on my face. Then they are laughing hahaha, they knew they got me where they want to haha. Lisa then took a picture of us.

My brother used to fight a lot when we were kids. We never seem to tag along, maybe because I'm years older. Even when I'm already working, we rarely see each other since I'm pre-occupied by other stuffs most of the time. It's been more than two years since we last saw each other. Then that's when I realized how I may have spent more time with them. But then, I guess it's not yet too late. I don't wanna cry believe me haha. I missed my family. It's really tough living alone. I guess for now, I'm going to enjoy spending some time with my family before they'll be leaving again.

People Power: Was it?

I can't remember the name of the this politician who said that something like, "Political issues are decided only in Metro Manila. What about us in the province?" This came to mind, questions that is still unanswered ever since I was in high school. Is the People power in Edsa really a people power? How about EDSA 2? Was electing Cory Aquino as the successor to President Marcos the greatest mistake that the Filipinos made after the so-called Edsa Revolution and not Erap? Take note, in every book, articles that I've read, they always mentioned it as "EDSA Revolution" and not Philippine revolution.

With the things that's happening right now, it seems like that EDSA is in for another revolution, people are already anticipating EDSA Tres if President Macapagal-Arroyo will not resign. I smiled when one solon said in a TV interview that it's the job of the oppossition to always disagree with the administration. So that's their job? What about their "real" job? Are they not doing it anymore? Okay so what if EDSA 3 pushed through, then PGMA will resigned, if things in the future got worse, what kind of solutions are we thinking? Yes, EDSA 4. and so on.

People want changes in the system but in fact they can't even start it with themselves. Look around you and you'll see. Look at yourself in front of a mirror and ask yourself, "Am I doing my job?"

If you look at the Philippines in a map, it's shape is the most unique in all of the countries.. why? it's not because it looks like a man... but because it is composed of scattered islands. Like us Filipinos... People Power didn't happened in 1986. Not even in 2001. In fact, it didn't even happened at all.

Spurs Win!!!

Whew! What a series! Honestly, I predicted it to be a low-scoring, boring games. Without Manu Ginobili in the Spurs line-up, I could've been rooting for Detroit instead. I really admire the way they play, playing together as a team and defending as a team. I specially root for the Wallaces and Chauncey Bbbb... Billups!

After the first two games which the San Antonio Spurs won in a blow out. With Manu OBI-WAN-Ginobili and Tony Parker running around their defenders. I said this one is over with the way the Detroit Pistons are playing, but then they came back with a back to back blow out of their own at the Palace in Michigan. Series tied 2-2.

Game 5: Big Shot Bob, or as Tim Duncan says, Big Shot Bobby broke the Pistons heart with a thunderous dunk and yet another one of his clutch 3 pointer in the end game to salvage the Spurs with a game they could've lost because of Tim Duncan's missed free throw.

Game 6 at the SBC Center could've been the last game, but then Rasheed Wallace, who has been on the bench most of the time because of foul trouble came up big in the clutch where he also hit a 3 pointer and timely shots and defense on Tim Duncan which made up for his Game 5 booboos when he left Robert Horry to double team Manu.

Then finally, Game 7.. boy oh boy oh boy, it was really closed the score at the end of the 3rd? 57-57, now how close can that be? Then Manu broke away for a one handed dunk, Duncan hitting his patented bank shot, Manu for another highlight dunk againsts Ben Wallace, Bruce Bowen hitting 3 pointers then Manu breaking the Pistons heart with another three!

Tim Duncan another Finals MVP, which I may say a tossed up between him and Manu. And the City of San Antonio their third NBA Championship. Thank you San Antonio.. Thank you Detroit, for teaching us "the right way" of playing basketball and for a real championship series that I've been missing since "The Shot 3" of you know who back in 1998.

Job Interview

I was given the opportunity to interview the job applicants for some vacant position here at work. Nothing specific really from that article yet, and no news about it on Fedora's website.

I am just starting to be comfortable with Linux, and I chose Fedora and Ubuntu as my distro. I believe that using a Linux distro is by choice, choose which distro you feel you're comfortable with and then you'll learn more of it. I decided to stop installing every new distro that I see on Distrowatch. It's time to be more productive. I used one of the workstations to replaced it then we bought a new one. Then I replaced the remaining oldest workstation (P-166) with a P-III which was previously used at the other office. I also have other tasks at work that I really can't just passed it to one of my co-workers, so it took me all week to test and configure everything before I go to a 2 day break this weekend. Thank God, everything is back to normal (crosses finger), with major upgrades in speed for the hardwares. At first, it just freezes but now It just shuts down. I removed my NVidia GF2 VGA card and used the on-board vga but still same problem. And then I thought It could also be the RAM, but still. I know It is not an OS/Software problem since It also happened when I booted into Fedora. It must be a hardware problem then, maybe the motherboard or the power supply is the culprit. Right now, I removed the other hard drive, 2 optical drives then 1 ethernet card. Before I left the house this morning it's doing okay. Well I have, SEVERAL TIMES! I really don't know what's happening in Yahooland but hey, I didn't change my password, if someone did, an email will be sent to my alternative email about this, then for sure I will know.

Because of this, I decided not to use my yahoo account as my primary address, and instead use my Gmail account. Haven't been using it for quite some time now, and some of the new features that they have that I found very useful for since the last time I used it is that they are offering a free POP Access, so that I can download my emails locally.(I was previously using yahoopops, and the other one is 2GB+ of storage (and as they say on their website, AND COUNTING...).

Since Gmail is an invitation only account (from other Gmail users), I still have some left, if you are interested, you can post a comment here with your email address where I can send it.

Ubuntu 5.04 (Hoary)

I was having some trouble installing Ubuntu Hoary for the past few days. It must have been a media problem since the cd's that I used are all the same brand. I hope Canonical will send me a free copy (again), just like the Warty version hehe. Anyways what I did last week was, since I still have Warty installed, and it is pretty much stable, I tried upgrading it to Hoary. After googling and reading some notes and comments from various forums, I tried following the guides located here : http://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/HoaryUpgradeNotes . Well, it was 2am, so I went to take a nap, hoping that it'll finish downloading the upgraded packages when I woke up. It turns out that (I forgot, silly lol), there's a scheduled power interruption at 5am, so when I woke up at around 5:30am, well my desknote is still on, but my cable modem is not lol. Tried it again later that night, and well thank goodness, the other packages are already there, plus with the help of the cd, I added it on my apt repositories, so it doesn't need to download all packages.

After more than two hours, not sure really, maybe less, since I left it then went with my daily chores, Hoary is already installed on my system! =) I rebooted my system to make sure that everything works fine from the ground up, and voila!

Back in Blog II

Blogger has more templates than Multiply, which is much better don't you think? :) Although I'll keep my photos stored on multiply and just make a link from there.

Holy Week

I want to treat this coming Holy Week as a vacation, but something in me tells me that I shouldn't. Pretty cool, maybe someday I may or may not use it regularly.

Mirror Mirror on the wall...

Why is it that we easily see other's weaknesses and wrong doings while we don't actually see ourselves. It was the 4th strongest earthquake recorded in history. I wish I could enjoy the holiday season, but then this things happened, makes me feel lucky.. and blessed that I am not harm, still in good health, and have food and water in my table.

As stories, news and video footages were shown on the television and the internet. I can see that it really doesn't matter what material things that you do have, but what is inside your heart that matters because in any given time, in any given day, no matter what time or day it might be, we could lose those material things in just a wink of an eye.

This coming new year, I still have my old resolution, hoping that I could fulfill them, because I know that I, we have that opportunity to be a better person as God wants us to be. Let us pray for those people who were affected by the disaster and that He may always be with us.

A year older...

Time could really fly. Sometimes, we don't noticed it. It's either we accomplished anything in the past year or we don't. Honestly, I do not recall. But I am hoping that I may. Maybe because nothing much has change for me. It's not yet too late. Accomplishments are not measured on how old you are but on what you did. It doesn't mean though that you have all the time in the world. Anything can happen anytime, anywhere. So treat every minute, every second of your life that It might be your last, slowly but surely.

Below is a picture of a sunset that I took while we were driving to the mall. When Typhoon "Yoyong" was about to hit our province. I have never felt so scared of typhoon at that time. I really felt like our house would fall apart, gutters flying. I thank Him for our parents, who in the past provides security. I realize how lucky are we to have them. On the contrary, It really touched my heart for those hit by those raging typhoons. As I can see them on the television without food and shelter. Let everyday be a thanksgiving day for all of us. Let's stop worrying about things that we know we can live without. Gadgets, cellphones, unsuccessful relationships, annoying superiors, unhappy at work, etc. Let's always look at the positive side. We should be thankful to what we have, because to some they have nothing. Most of the time, in the morning, we check our cellphones as we wake up, hit the shower then rush to work, how about a minute or so of prayer before starting the day. Now would that make our day? Certainly...

It's that time of the year

Cold breeze of air in the morning that really makes you wanna sleep more. And my body is really hurting *smiles. I guess it's one way of how my body is telling me to work out and stay healthy. I've gained some weight again, and It's easier to gain weight than lose even a pound of it. I'm setting some goals about getting some muscles instead of fats. My aunt once told me, that we had a family history of cardiac arrest, and quite frankly it really had me thinking about it. I mean it is really scary to have a heart attack, because it will just happen. I'll try my best to stay healthy.

I had a chance to talk to one of my old friend, Lyd in Yahoo. It's been a while since I went online. We really haven't met personally, I met her back in my IRC days *smiles. I'm happy to meet quite some friends back then that even now we can still get in touch through chatting since we're not geographically close.

My girlfriend got sick yesterday, thank God she's doing okay now *smiles. I myself as I have mentioned earlier is not feeling good, I'll be okay though.

Hmmm wachathink?

As you may notice, I've changed the header of my blog *grin. On it are actual footages, on how U.S. President George W. Bush is linked to the Bin Ladens (business-wise). That it is politics that started the war on Iraq. What happened if the U.S. Supreme Court judged in favor for Al Gore who (*really) won the election? I don't know Pres. Bush that well to comment on what kind of a person he really is. My opinions are based on what I read before and what I saw in this movie. There is a scene where Mr. Moore was asking U.S. Congressmen to enlist their son/daughter and send them to Iraq because of all the congressmen, only ONE has his son enlisted. How would they feel by then that their son is in Iraq, just like parents/relatives of thousands of troops who are in Iraq. Where is indeed are the weapons of mass destruction that they are talking about.

Makes me wonder, maybe he can also make a documentary about the Philippine government. Then maybe the truth will come out. I was watching a documentary on ABC 5 last night about lives of people after the one hundredth day of President Macapagal, one is living in a flooded area, where there are no roads and electricity, using a candle to enlighten them during the night while right in front of them is the abundant lights of Makati. Another one is living everyday, where she doesn't know where to get her family's next meal. And the other one is a struggling man, who is looking for work on the first episode in June, but then this time already is working, contractual for six months and have a wife and two kids to support.

Things like this makes me feel really blessed, not only for having food and other stuffs, but for the lessons that I learned. I know other people who are like them, struggling in everyday lives, who are struggling to survive, on how to bring just enough food and security to their family, and then there are these other people who have problems making a big deal on what to wear and how to look good, on buying the latest cellphone, etc. Because of them that I opened my mind and heart, and I pray to God to enrich me with lessons that I will learn from, for me to be more close to Him. Reality check my dear friends.. maybe it is time to learn more on what really is the REAL world.

BTW, I really recommend it to you guys to watch this movie by Michael Moore. *Smiles

Fedora Core 2 on ASUS Degatto

I successfully installed Fedora Core 2 on my ASUS Degatto last night. I initially wanted to try out Bayanihan Linux 3.1, since I didn't have luck installing Fedora Core 1 before. But then I encountered some errors while installing. I just wanted to try it and continue my agenda of working with various operating system to pursue a career in computer security and administration. I used Mandrake before since it's the distribution that worked on my desktop. But nothing serious really happened in there which I hope to change now with some hacking.

Good thing FC2 have the drivers for my ASUS/Broadcomm NIC, that way I don't have to download their drivers. Downloaded some rpm's from http://linux-ntfs.sourceforge.net/ to include NTFS support on my kernel (2.6.5-1.358) since I dual-booted it with WinXP SP2, and I haven't updated it yet. One of my agenda is to make VB6 and some other win32 app working under Wine. I didn't have any success yet right now though. My built-in Lucent winmodem is not yet supported, so not dialups yet (I'm using cable). Soundcard (AC'97) is supported, X also is doing fine, 1024x768 is fine by me, although my monitor is unsupported. I didn't install the whole package since my free space is only 4GB, so I have to choose some packages tonight that I don't need and uninstall it.

I'm still kinda sleepy, I guess caffeine is not working for me anymore *smiles.

Somebody out there?

Created a new blog.. planning to restart blogging again..
